Tina Abbott was elected Secretary-Treasurer of the Michigan AFL-CIO on September 23, 1999 at the state federation's convention in Dearborn and re-elected in 2003 and 2007.

Abbott was involved in many union activities from serving in the Community Action Program (CAP) of the UAW, serving as secretary and then as District Chairperson. She also served on the Civil Rights Committee, the bargaining team of UAW Local 6000. She currently serves as Chairperson of the Labor Constituency Council of Michigan, she is a life time member of the NAACP and co-founder of the Ironing Board Brigade.

Abbott is a graduate of Wayne State University Labor School and Wayne County Community College. She currently serves at Vice Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party and a member of the Democratic National Committee. Abbott was elected to the Wayne State Board of Governors in 2004. She is married, with three children and seven grandchildren.
